Start 2018 With Fresh Eyes

The feelings your school instills in a prospective student make or break their buying decision. Those feelings – including that all important first impression – begin long before they ever come face-to-face with your Admissions Rep.

Learning to see through the eyes of a prospective student helps you empathize with their experience while also breaking bad habits along the way. This simple Fresh Eyes Exercise from our co-founder Shane Sparks will get you started.

  • Turn Autopilot off.

Imagine you’re a prospective student doing it all for the very first time.

  • As you drive to work, ask yourself these questions:
    • Is there sufficient signage from the road and is it clear where I’m supposed to go?
    • Is it obvious where I’m supposed to park?
    • Is the route from the parking to the school well marked?
  • On your walk up to the front door, how are you greeted?
    • With a clean, professional and inviting entrance?
    • Or by discarded cigarette butts and lousy homemade signs?
  • When the door closes behind you...
    • Is the lobby warm and inviting?
    • Is the receptionist there to greet you?

As you move through the exercise tomorrow morning, take mental notes on what you could change for the better.

It’s a simple tip, but it works. Training your mind to see with fresh eyes will help you break free of the dysfunctional business habits that you follow because “it’s always been done like that.”
